Liga MX Femenil viewing guide: 2024 Apertura, Week 16

Hard to believe there are just two weeks left in the regular season! For some teams, the Liguilla beckons. Tigres, Pachuca, Rayadas, and América are all already in, For Cruz Azul, León, San Luis, Mazatlán, Puebla, Santos, and Necaxa, they’re already looking forward to the offseason.

For Chivas, Juárez, Pumas, Tijuana, Atlas, Querétaro, and Toluca, there are still four places to play for. Chivas has a magic number of one, Juárez and Pumas have a magic number of two. Eighth place Tijuana have a magic number of four, while Atlas and Querétaro’s number is six and Toluca’s is eight. Those last four teams are certainly feeling the pressure, making games against even the lowliest teams in the league that much more nerve-wracking. One red card, one dumb penalty, one moment of lapsed concentration, and the whole season can change.

Game of the Week

Welp! Last week I picked América vs. Pachuca as my Game of the Week, and it turned out to be a 5-0 thrashing by América. Hopefully this week’s pick will be more entertaining. Rayadas has run hot and cold this season, as has Chivas. Rayadas wants to enter the Liguilla on a good note, especially after missing out on advancing in the Concacaf W Champions Cup tournament. Chivas meanwhile just wants to make the Liguilla, which wasn’t looking all that likely until a week or so ago. The team has struggled, but are finding good form now, when it matters most. They need to play hungry and desperate against a very good Rayadas team that can’t be satisfied with how their season has gone.
