Liga MX Femenil viewing guide: 2023 Apertura, Week 8
The halfway-ish point of the season!
It’s hard to believe that the season is just about halfway done, and we’re watching some teams make some good history. León and Querétaro are looking ever more like strong bets to make the Liguilla, while even Necaxa is improved over seasons past. We’re in for some exciting times ahead for sure, and I’m ready for it.
This week has some decent games, although there looks like there could be some real clunkers opportunities for upsets. Unfortunately ir looks like there will be three games (legally!) inaccessible in the United States, however all games will be broadcast in Mexico.
Game of the Week
Rayadas hosts Pumas in a battle between two teams kind of in the middle of the table but with designs on much bigger and better things. Rayadas have been good but not dominant, which is a very different look from them. They’re still quality from top-to-bottom, and if they can get the hiccups worked out they’ll be as dangerous as ever. Pumas are having a bit of a resurgence, but despite sitting in a Liguilla spot at the moment fans have every right to be wary of letting hopes and expectations get too high. There are still five teams with games in hand at the moment, and there’s still a lot of soccer to play.
Beyond all of that however, this match marks the return of Desirée Monsiváis to El Gigante de Acero, where she spent eleven seasons and set the goalscoring record, which is still waiting to be broken. I’ll be very interested to see how the crowd reacts to her return, although I’m guessing she’ll be greeted warmly.
