Liga MX Femenil viewing guide: 2023 Apertura, Week 12
We're back, y'all.
After a week off for the international break, Liga MX Femenil is back. There should be some really good matches on this week, both in terms of exciting matchups and good storylines. The Atlas vs. Puebla match features two teams at 2-2-7 in the standings, which should be good viewing - especially since it’s (legally!) available to watch in the US and México. Santos vs. Toluca should be good as well not just because it’s also (legally!) available in both countries over-the-air but it marks the return of long-time Santos captain Cinthya Peraza after she made a move to Toluca during this past offseason. A club and crowd favorite, I interviewed Peraza back in 2021 and talked about how she started with Santos and her passion for drawing. I would imagine she’ll get a warm welcome back from the crowd in Torreón on Monday night.
Game of the Week
Pachuca hosting América has the makings of a classic. Don’t be fooled by Pachuca’s 5-2-4 record - they were missing Marta Cox and Jenni Hermoso for a few of those games, with Cox missing the first five and Hermoso still to start after winning the World Cup and dealing with everything else that has happened to her since. While Cox did play with Panamá during this window, Hermoso remained in Pachuca and hopefully she’s in a space where she can finally focus on just fútbol.
América however is as good as their 10-0-1 record however, and they added Kheira Hamraoui in the lead up to the international break. While it remains to be seen how much (if any) time Hamraoui will get, I’m not sure it matters much. They were the class of the league before adding her, and if she can get up to speed it’ll only make them that much better. This one should be a good matchup if Hermoso and Hamraoui don’t play, but could be an all-timer if they do.
