Liga MX Femenil viewing guide: 2023 Clausura, Week 17

This week is what it’s all been boiling down to. There are four teams left who can make Liguilla with only two spots available. Pumas and Tijuana are on the outside looking in, and will need to win and get help in order to advance. Juárez and Toluca meanwhile just need to win, but Juárez is depleted with injuries and Toluca hosts América (more on this below). Meanwhile the top four teams all have paths to finishing as superlíder, and only Chivas is guaranteed home field advantage in the first round. That said, Pachuca, Tigres, Juárez, and Monterrey are all playing against teams who have been eliminated from the Liguilla, and Chivas is playing Tijuana, who are currently on the outside looking in and desperately need a win. The only matchup of two teams currently in the top eight?

Game of the Week

Toluca hosts América in what could not only be a dramatic game because of the Liguilla implications for Toluca, but it should be an awesome game because both teams are in great form at the moment. At the start of the final week, Toluca sits in eighth place just two points above Tijuana and three above Pumas. A win and they clinch. Anything else and it gets messy, depending on how Juárez, Pumas, and Tijuana do. They’re even on goal differential, while Juárez and Pumas are both on the plus side.

That said, América have plenty to play for. A win could see them take superlíder if Chivas loses and both Tigres and Rayadas do no better than a draw. Even if they don’t get the superlíder, a win guarantees them home field advantage in the first series, which at this stage would be against Pachuca. A loss, and it’s conceivable they’re ending their first series away at Pachuca, which is not a good place to play with your backs against the wall.
