Liga MX Femenil viewing guide: 2023 Apertura, Week 6
Mid-week madness, and the opportunity for an upset
Apologies once again for the lack of weekly recaps. The World Cup has really taken precedence over a lot of my life, as has something else I’ve been working on. More to come on that later (maybe). But the show will go on as best as I can manage here.
A mid-week slate of games is always entertaining, especially if you want to really find out about squad depth and coaching. With teams just finishing up games a couple of days ago and looking forward to more this weekend, the mid-week games can get lost in the shuffle.
This presents a great opportunity for some teams to steal a win against a tougher opponent if they can play their cards right. Normally I’d make the Chivas-Rayadas game the Game of the Week because it’s two of the best teams and easily available to watch, but because everything else is all out of sorts, I’ll give you the one I think will have the biggest potential for being an upset.
Game (which could be an upset) of the Week
I’m going to go with Cruz Azul at América, since I think Cruz Azul are much better than their record and while it’s technically an away match, they played there last week. I also think they can match up well with América from a tactical standpoint, especially if Érica Gomes and Norma Palafox can get in sync and get cooking.
América however is undefeated for a reason: they’re really good. Top to bottom, the defending champions are one of the best teams in the league. They may decide this is the game to switch things up and rest players, opening the door for Cruz Azul to pull out the upset. América (along with Pachuca) had the shortest break of any team and also has two friendly matches lined up in the coming weeks against Barcelona and Real Madrid.
