Liga MX Femenil viewing guide: 2023 Clausura, Week 15
How to (legally) watch all of this weekend's Liga MX Femenil games in the United States and México.
With just three games left in the regular season, Liga MX Femenil is coming to the point in time where teams will either decide their Liguilla fate or have it decided for them. The good news is that seven of the nine games this week will legally be available for viewing in both the United States and México, with only Pachuca vs. San Luis and Mazatlán vs. Necaxa excluded from the US. Neither of these games are expected to be in the better category of games, although I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t interested in watching Mazatlán vs. Necaxa because both teams should look at this as their best opportunity to get to two wins on the season and should throw everything at each other.
I also think Tijuana vs. Querétaro will be a good one since Xolos Femenil needs points and Querétaro are so defensively sound. It’ll be very difficult for Tijuana, but not impossible. Rayadas vs. América will also be a really good match too, and Pumas’ first game under the lights at Estadio Olímpico when they host Juárez will be both historic and fun. That said, there really could only be one choice for Game of the Week…
Game of the Week
Tigres hosting Chivas at El Volcán will be the best of the week. Chivas have hit their stride and are looking to retain the superlíder going into the Liguilla. They also are seeing Licha Cervantes in an absolutely ridiculous vein of form, scoring eight goals in just 360 minutes of play this season, missing almost three months of play while recovering from injury.
Tigres meanwhile are finding their form, winning their last three games and going unbeaten in five. Stephany Mayor is back from injury, Mia Fishel is scoring goals, and we’re seeing Riley Mattingly and Deiry Ramírez making a name for themselves on one of the biggest women’s teams in the world. Jackie Ovalle has also been playing some of her best soccer in recent memory, putting on a show during Tigres’ recent games as well as for the Mexican National Team.
There’s also the history between these teams, dating back to the genesis of the league where they were both in Group 2 and fought for the two Liguilla spots. Tigres beat Chivas in the 2018 Apertura semifinals, Chivas returned the favor in the 2022 Clausura semifinals, and for the 2021 Clausura tournament Tigres won 7-4 on aggregate to get their fourth title. These teams have always been among the best in the league, and there’s a history of dislike between the two.
With so much on the line with regards to the upcoming Liguilla and positioning, this one should be the best of the bunch.
