All the news that's fit to print, and then some...

Lots to get to this week, so with no further fanfare, the news.

México

Puebla found themselves embroiled in a scandal this past week regarding former player Lucía Yáñez. Yáñez left the club earlier this month after being subject to abuse with the club failing to do much of anything to protect her. (W Deportes)

Puebla responded, denying much of the account provided in the W Deportes story. (Puebla Femenil on X/Twitter)

Yáñez then released a statement of her own, confirming the original reporting by W Deportes and expressing a desire to return to play soccer in México at some point.

FC Juárez filed a protest with the league after reports of players receiving racist abuse at Estadio Alfonso Lastras Ramírez during their match against Atlético de San Luis last Monday. (FC Juárez via X/Twitter)

Chivas midfielder Dana Sandoval suffered a strained hip while with the México U17 National Team. The club notes that Sandoval “is already in rehabilitation” and will monitor her progress before setting a return timetable. (Chivas)

Chivas also noted Casandra Montero had suffered pain in her left foot during the Tigres game on the 29th of September, revealing an injury to the plantar fascia. Montero missed the game this week against Tijuana, and the club has not publicly stated a timetable for her return. (Chivas)

In that same injury notice, the club also revealed Joselyn de la Rosa had suffered a broken left pinkie toe in the September 26th match against Pumas. Like the others, no timetable for return was given. (Chivas)

In good news for Chivas however, the club celebrated Dr. Adriana “Boyi” Iturbide’s 200th game, when she came in during the 84th minute of the match against Tigres. Congratulations Doc! (Chivas)

Charlyn Corral was named as the #1 goal scorer in the world by none other than the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS). Congratulations Charlyn! (Pachuca)

Rayadas won their 200th game in club history, downing Santos 2-1 on Thursday. Congratulations! (Rayadas)

Rest of the World

The Copa Libertadores Femenina is in full swing. As of this writing, Group A still has Corinthians, Boca Juniors, and Libertad still in it to advance, with Corinthians and Boca in the driver’s seat. Venezuela’s ADIFFEM have already been eliminated but could play spoiler against Boca Juniors. In Group B, Santos and Olímpia have clinched spots in the next round, while Colo-Colo and Always Ready have been eliminated.

Group C meanwhile is still wide open with all teams having two games remaining and the initial matches between Ferroviária and Dragonas IDV and Peñarol and Santa Fe both ending in a draw. The final matches will take place on October 7 and October 10. Finally in Group D, Alianza Lima and Deportivo Cali won their opening matches against Santiago Morning and Guaraní, respectively. The remaining slate of games will take place on October 7 and October 10 as well.

Apropos of nothing, I love this graphic series that was made for the Copa Libertadores Femenina.

With a current record of 22 wins, no losses, and no draws FC Rosengård has won the Damallsvenskan with five games left.

The NWSL Players Association (NWSLPA) is headquartered in Asheville, North Carolina, which has experienced devastating flooding in the wake of Hurricane Helene, which cut a path of destruction from the Florida panhandle up into Appalachia. The organization released a statement on social media on Monday informing everyone that the NWSLPA staff in Asheville was safe and accounted for, which is great news.

The Houston Dash (finally) parted ways with head coach Fran Alonso. Alonso had been on leave since the end of July, joining the Dash back in December. (Houston Dash via X/Twitter)

Tom Garry wrote a really interesting article about Katie Zelem’s move from Manchester United to Angel City FC. (The Guardian)

The Orlando Pride have won the 2024 NWSL Shield. Congratulations!

Perhaps a greater victory was had by Pride midfielder Luana, who finished her cancer treatment this past week.
