Fútnotes, Volume 32

All the news that's fit to print, and then some...

Being that it’s Labor Day here in the United States, I want to briefly shout out all of the people who put their labor into what we think of when it comes to soccer. Players, coaches, front office staff for clubs and federations, agents, stadium workers, grounds crews, translators, communications staff, equipment crews, videographers, and last but definitely not least, my fellow writers, podcasters, photographers, announcers, and other creatives. There are so many people who make soccer possible, and each and every one of them are vital to an industry that provides so much to so many.

Rest of the World

Republic of Ireland head coach Vera Pauw’s contract with the FAI was allowed to lapse, meaning she is no longer the head coach for the Irish Women’s National Team. One place Pauw won’t be coaching: the NWSL, which banned her as a result of findings of the NWSL/NWSLPA joint investigation. (Pro Soccer Wire)

Speaking of the Ireland WNT, the FAI has put out a call to “any player who represented the Ireland Women’s National Team at senior level in an official game since 1973” in an attempt to honor every WNT player for it’s 50th anniversary. Every player is invited to the UEFA Nations League match on September 23. (Football Association of Ireland)

Speaking of national teams getting rid of their coaches, Brazil announced that Pia Sundhage was out as the WNT coach. (Confederação Brasileira de Futebol)

And Colombia parted ways with Nelson Abadía. (Federación Colombiana de Fútbol)

Don’t ever let them tell you no one pays attention to women’s soccer.
