All the news that's fit to print, and then some...
Hello everyone, especially new subscribers! Every week I go through and try to find interesting stories in women’s soccer around the world. Some are uplifting, some are possibly triggering, but all deserve your attention as far as I’m concerned. If you happen to see something interesting this week in women’s soccer anywhere in the world, feel free to let me know by tagging me on twitter or emailing me at [email protected]
México
México starts the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games on Thursday, and had two warm-up matches so far. First they beat Chivas 5-0 at CAR on with two goals from Charlyn Corral and a goal each from Rebeca Bernal, Jaqueline Ovalle, and Kiana Palacios. (FMF)
River Plate captain Justi Morcillo is leaving River to play in México, however the tweet stops short of saying which team she’s joining.
Liga MX Femenil teams continue to sign players and release them as well. I put together a Transfer Tracker for this offseason where you can track who has gone where.

Rest of the World
FIFPRO, the global union for professional football players, released a rather damning report on the conditions surrounding qualifying for the 2023 World Cup (FIFPRO). Among the findings, 23% of players reported not receiving any payment from their national team, 54% didn’t receive a pretournament medical exam, and 66% of players reported having to take unpaid leave or vacation time from another form of employment to participate. This is simply unacceptable.
FOX4 in Kansas City did a great Juneteenth feature on Elizabeth Ball, defender for the Kansas City Current. (FOX 4 KC)
The Jamaica Gleaner reported on a growing rift between Cedella Marley, Jamaica Football Federation chairpoerson Elaine Walker-Brown, and head coach Lorne Donaldson (Jamaica Gleaner). This comes amidst the Reggae Girlz having at least one GoFundMe page set up to help them pay to go to the World Cup. If you think this is a good cause, I ask that you donate if you can, spread it on social media if you can’t.
Speaking of GoFundMe pages set up to help deserving people go to the World Cup, Shea Butter FC and Diaspora United had a GoFundMe set up to help them attend the tournament that has raised just shy of $30,000 as of this writing. Gal Pal Sports also set one up to get them out that is just shy of $12,000. As with the Reggae Girlz GFM, if you think these are a good cause I urge you to donate if you can, and spread it on social media if you can’t.
Don’t ever let them tell you no one pays attention to women’s soccer.
