Fútnotes, Volume 17
All the news that's fit to print, and then some...
There’s been a lot going on in the soccer world. European seasons are ending, Liguilla is going on in México, South America and the US are getting into their seasons… couple that with the goings on of daily life and all that I’ve been working on it’s been hard to stay on top of it all.
The show must go on however, and I hope you find value in the stories and links below.
México
With several Liga MX Femenil clubs’ seasons over, they have started posting “thank you and good luck” to departing players, announcing who won’t be back in the summer. Players have also taken it on themselves to do so, and Bea Parra had a graphic that really spoke to what makes playing in México wonderful. Her accompanying message on Twitter however was less complimentary, saying “My values as a footballer and as a person don’t coincide with those of the technical staff nor with the project of Atlético San Luis Femenil, becoming present in the treatment I received in the last months, for this reason I’m obligated to not continue belonging to the discipline of the club.”
Speaking of San Luis, fans of the club wrote an open letter calling for the head of head coach Fernando Samayoa. (Twitter)
TelevisaUnivision announced the acquisition of rights to Club Tijuana and Monterrey games for the upcoming tournament. This includes their Xolos Femenil and Rayadas, whose games will move from FOX Deportes in the US to ViX. (TelevisaUnivision)
My friend Melissa of the twitter account Chivas_FEng put together some data points on the point differential across seasons between the top club, top eight clubs, and the bottom club. I’m a sucker for data visualizations, doubly so for ones that go into Liga MX Femenil data. (Twitter)
Mariana Gutiérrez was interviewed in El Financiero, saying that México “had a historical debt with women’s soccer” and talking about some of the challenges she faces as the president of Liga MX Femenil. (El Financiero)
Prior to the first leg of their series against Tigres, Atlas announced forward Carolina Venegas had suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament (MCL) in her right knee. There’s no timetable on her return, although see below for an idea of about how long it could take. (Atlas FC)

This is probably some of the best sportswriting I’ve read in a while, with The Guardian’s Jonathan Liew writing about Sam Kerr’s game winning goal in the FA Cup.
This is a fantastic shot of Emily Alvarado mid-flight with the Houston Dash.
My friends at Diaspora United podcast interviewed Crystal Dunn for their 100th episode. A great interview on a great podcast, and congratulations on 100 episodes! (Diaspora United)
Don’t ever let them tell you no one pays attention to women’s soccer.
