I originally started this newsletter / site / thing to continue the work I started doing with both FMF State Of Mind and FutMexNation’s Our Futbol Podcast. Women’s sports were growing in leaps and bounds and the Mexican game was being overlooked, especially in the English-language woso circles, and I wanted to fill that gap.

Over time, it also became a space where I was able to also shed light on woso stories from all around the globe. The focus was still on México, but I enjoyed finding stories that were overlooked, especially from the remainder of Latin America. To get a little political (as a reminder folks, all sports are political), I believe that the nations of the Western Hemisphere are all cut from the same cloth, and that our differences in language often are used to hide the common bonds we share. We are all brothers and sisters here, bound by the common threads of subjugation and emancipation, of slavery and abolition, and of colonization and liberation. We have all come so far and still have so much work to do.

But I digress, because at the end of the day, you’re here and I’m (ostensibly) here because of the soccer, or football, or fútbol, or voetbal, or futebol. Telling and shedding light on the footballing stories of our siblings in Abya Yala and beyond gave me immense joy. However, prior to my last installment of this newsletter I accepted a position with TMJ. For those that don’t know, TMJ is an agency that represents woso players all around the world. I spent the last couple of years working with them on social media campaigns, and knew it would have been a conflict of interest to take a paycheck for that while also doing this newsletter. I wouldn’t have felt right making decisions about what stories to post and what opinions I should share with my job on one shoulder and the newsletter with my name attached to it on the other. So I mothballed this and focused on my work.

Unfortunately for me though, I was let go from my position at TMJ. It was an amicable split - the economy is not doing great, and no industry is immune. It sucks, but it’s just business. I wish them all the success in the world and continue to be proud of my contribution to that organization, however small it may have been.

I took a couple of weeks hiatus. It was the first time since I left high school that I literally didn’t have any work to do. I spent spring break with my youngest, took walks with my dog, and continued doing community organizing here. But I don’t like being idle and have been trying to figure out what I’m going to do in the soccer journalism space.

So I’m back in the saddle, resurrecting this outlet. The goal will be to publish one article a week on Liga MX Femenil and one weekly round-up of woso news from around the Americas and the world, just like I was doing before. The difference is that I’m going to attempt to also work on some longer form articles related to woso. I’ve got a couple of ideas kicking around, one of which is pretty close to being completed.

I also want to know what you would like to see from me, dear reader. I can’t guarantee I’ll be able to pull it off, but I’d love to hear it nonetheless. So feel free to drop me a line at [email protected] or on Bluesky.

Finally, thank you for reading this and subscribing to my newsletter. It means more to me than you could possibly imagine.
