2023 Revelations Cup Women's National Team Call-ups

Pedro López named his first national team squad ahead of the Revelations Cup, which will start in León on February 15. The squad is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Celeste Espino (Guadalajara), Emily Alvarado (Stade de Reims), Itzel González (América)

Defenders: Karol Bernal (Rayadas de Monterrey), Cristina Ferral (Tigres UANL), Jocelyn Orejel (América), Karina Rodríguez (América), Miah Zuazua (FC Juárez), Greta Espinoza (Tigres UANL), Nicolette Hernández (América), Kenti Robles (Real Madrid), Anika Rodríguez (Tigres UANL)

Midfielders: Aylin Aviléz (Rayadas de Monterrey), Diana García (Rayadas de Monterrey), Stephany Mayor (Tigres UANL), Carolina Jaramillo (Guadalajara), Alexia Delgado (Cruz Azul), Natalia Mauleón (América), Karla Nieto (Pachuca)

Forwards: Scarlett Camberos (América), Myra Delgadillo (FC Juárez), Dr. Adriana Iturbide (Guadalajara), Kiana Palacios (América), Charlyn Corral (Pachuca), Daniela Espinosa (Club Tijuana), Jacqueline Ovalle (Tigres UANL)

It’s a roster that is very domestic, with only Emily Alvarado and Kenti Robles playing professionally outside of México. No NWSL players or NCAA players are on the list, however those are both out of season and López may not have wanted to bring someone into a camp who wasn’t match fit and risk injuries. It’s also a well-balanced roster in terms of age, with players like Aviléz and Espino who have starred on México’s youth national teams along side veterans like Mayor and Robles.

Overall it’s a very attack minded roster. Hernández and Zuazua are listed as defenders, however both are more forward-mobile wing backs that tend to add to the attack. Aviléz and Mayor are listed as midfielders, however Aviléz is more of a center forward with Mayor being more versatile with the ability to be an attacking midfielder, a center forward, or some combination of the two roles.

The first match will take place on Wednesday, February 15 against Nigeria.
